Obituary of Utta (Herrmann) Tezel

Utta Tezel, 81, of Beverly, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House with her family by her side. Utta was born in Germany on February 25, 1936 daughter of Richard Bodo Herrmann and Helen Erna (Frohberg) Herrmann. Raised and educated in Germany she emigrated to the United States in 1957. In 1974, she pursued her education at Bunker Hill Community College receiving her Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree. Utta was employed as a Registered Nurse at Country Manor Nursing Home in Newburyport retiring in 2015 due to her illness. Prior to this she had also worked for many years at the Seacoast Nursing Home in Gloucester. She dedicated her life to creating a home for her family, and was so proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a hobby, she had a special love for pottery and jewelry and traveled frequently to Turkey so she could import and sell them at local craft fairs and hospitals. Utta was also a gifted classical pianist and enjoyed musical theater and opera. She is survived by her husband Necip Tezel of Turkey, her children and their spouses, Deborah “Debbie” Driscoll of Derry, NH, Lisa Perez and Gilberto Perez Sr., David and Erin MacGilvray all of Danvers, James J. MacGilvray III and Cathy MacGilvray of West Newbury, Christopher MacGilvray of Lynn, and James Shaw of California; a sister, Elke Quenzel of Germany,17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her former husband, James J. MacGilvray Jr., two daughters, Paula Moyers and Tracy Kemp, and a granddaughter, Katie May Hunt. As per Utta’s request, a graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 29th at 1 p.m. at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 100 Rear Cedar Grove Ave., Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
