Obituary of Vasilia "Vassy" Helas
Vasilia “Vassy” (Patsiaris) Helas, of Peabody, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, November 22, 2017with her loving family by her side. Vassy was born in Peabody, on June 15, 1921, daughter of John and Cresoula (Andronikou) Patsiaris. Raised in Peabody she graduated from Peabody High School in 1938, and was a lifelong resident. She began her working career as a folder at the Danvers Bleachery. She was also employed as a mail room assistant at Beverly Hospital, followed by 12 years as a cafeteria assistant at Salem hospital. Vassy enjoyed caring for her 2 grandchildren and following their accomplishments. She was an active member at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, and also loved to cook. Vassy is survived by her grandchildren, Mary Kate Helas and Charles Helas of Peabody; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Emanuel Patsiaris, Elene Petrovitsis, Mary Canatselos and Georgia Kanarellis. As per her request a family graveside committal service was held at the family lot at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church Altar Fund, 7 Paleologos Street, Peabody, MA 01960.
