Obituary of George William Salisbury
George W. Salisbury, 83, of Salem and York Beach, Maine, died Sunday in Salem Hospital after a year long illness. Mr. Salisbury was born in Boston on March 3, 1923 the eldest son of the late William and Helen (Richard) Salisbury and was raised and educated in Saugus graduating from Saugus High School.
He then enlisted in the US
Navy and was a decorated WW 11 veteran serving as a Chief Petty Officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex which saw considerable action in the Pacific Theatre.
Following his discharge, he graduated from Franklin Institute with a degree in civil engineering and in 1947 he married his first wife, the late Josephine Flynn.
Mr Salisbury was a self-employed during his career as a general and design/build contractor and recently retired as president of the Salisbury Building Corp in 2004. He directed and accomplished numerous building and engineering projects throughout New England and in particular the greater Boston area.
He was distinguished in his involvement in the National Republican Congressional Committee and supported many local charities and benevolent associations. His hobbies included model ships and automobiles.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Eleanor (Ducey) Salisbury of Salem, three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Carol Salisbury of Tucson, AZ, Mark and Rebecca Salisbury of Lynnfield and Jon and Lu Anne Salisbury of Amesbury, 4 step-children, Richard Ducey of Condord,NH, Paul Ducey of Salem, MA, Alan Ducey of Peabody and Lynn Doyle of Canterbury, NH, 3 brothers, Joseph Salisbury of Wakefield, Herbert Salisbury of Middleton, and Charles Salisbury of Edgewater, FL, 11 grandchildren, Amy, Jordan and Flynn of Marblehead, Stephanie, Jennifer and Ben of Lynnfield, and Alycia, Derek, Scott, Ryan and Michael Salsibury all of Amesbury, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the devoted brother of the late Marion Salisbury.
A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility with a Service there at 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Following cremation, a Full Military internment will be held at the NH State Veteran Cemetery at 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen, NH on May 25, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Everyone is Welcome. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Parkinson ’ s disease Association, 1359 Broadway, Suite1509, NY, NY 10018 in his memory.
