Obituary of Doris (Lannell) Arnold
Doris (Lannell) Arnold,92, of Peabody, died early Saturday morning at the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home in Salem following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late James J. Arnold, Jr. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late William and Edith (Tremblay) Lannell. She was raised an educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1942. She has lived in Peabody for the past 74 years. Doris was employed for over 10 years as a sales clerk at the former Empire Clothing Store in Salem before retiring in 1980. Upon her retirement, Doris started a second career that lasted for over 25 years as a volunteer at the Community Life Center in Peabody and held many positions throughout those years. She taught oil and tinsel painting and a quilted bed spread class. She had been a board member of the friends of Peabody Council on Aging since 1989 and helped with the annual Fund Drive where she served as a chairperson. She also volunteered for the weekly bingo games, was a member of the Drill Team and Variety Show from 1983-1997. Besides her volunteer work, Doris was a recipient of many honors, including the King and Queen of the Anniversary Ball in 1985, and in 1991 she was presented with the Person of the Year Award at the center’s Annual Holiday Season Dinner and finally in 1994 she received The Pride in Peabody Award presented by Mayor Peter Torigian for her many contributions to the city of Peabody. Doris is survived by her two sons, James J Arnold, III of Stoneham and John and his wife Karen Arnold of Peabody, her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Doris and Donald Wing of Exeter, NH, Joanne and Ronald Woodruff of St. Peters, MO and Patricia Silva of Westbor, her sister, Theresa and her husband Arthur Kulakowski of Peabody. She is also survived by her beloved 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St, John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
