Obituary of Walter A. "Bud" Angell Jr.
Walter A. ‘Bud’ Angell, Jr. 92, of Peabody died Sunday, December 10, 2017 at his home. Born in East Derry, NH, he was the son of the late Walter A. Angell, Sr. and Hazel (Curtis) Angell. He attended grade school in Nahant and graduated from Lynn English High School where he excelled on the golf team. During World War II he served as a cook in the US Navy, stationed in the South Pacific. Upon his return home, he met his wife of 63 years, the late Dolores ‘Dolly’ (Hopkins) Angell. They moved to Peabody and raised 3 children. He worked at the Pequot Mills in Salem and then for the City of Peabody, where he held the position of Superintendent of Cemeteries for many years. Bud loved sports, music and animals. Bud and Dolly spent summer weekends attending drum and bugle corps competitions for many years. Bud also attended high school marching band competitions and concerts held by local symphony orchestras. He followed the local professional teams and was always at the local high school baseball, football and hockey games. He was an avid walker and was dedicated to walking his dog every day. Surviving him are a son, Robert ‘Butch’ Girard and his wife, Pat, of Peabody and Port Charlotte, FL; 2 daughters, Linda Burke and her husband, Walter, of Peabody and Port St. Lucie, FL and Susan Angell of Peabody; 4 grandchildren, Kathy Cahill and her husband, Shawn, Tricia Girard-MacGregor and her husband, Kevin, Gregg Girard and his wife, Linda and Maureen Burke; 4 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Brady MacGregor, Ruby Cahill and Mason Girard and his beloved Border Terrier, Fannie. A Family service was held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home on Thursday, December 14, 2017. Following cremation, a graveside service will be held next spring at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472 in his memory.
