Obituary of Emily R Eramo
Of Danvers, formerly of Peabody, Emily R. (Zappala) Eramo, 98, died December 18, 2017 at her last home, Putnam Farm, Danvers, MA. She was the wife of the last George Eramo Sr., with whom she was married to for 53 years. Born April 21, 1919 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Elizabeth (DeLuca) Zappala. Mrs. Eramo attended Holy Rosary Parochial School, Lawrence High School and Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Eramo was an honorably discharged veteran, having joined the Navy in 1943 and served her country during World War II as a Lieutenant (j.g.) in the U. S Navy Nurse Corps. She did land duty at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Leandro and Treasure Island, California and was assigned to the hospital ship U.S.S. Tranquility for duty in the Pacific during the War.
Married in 1948, she lived in East Boston and Medford and moved to Peabody in 1958, raised her three children, worked as a registered nurse at Salem Hospital for many years before working as a Public Health School Nurse for the City of Peabody 21 year until her retirement in 1990. Emily was the Title I nurse for the City of Peabody during the summer and Saturday programs. She had been active in school and church activities and had volunteered much of her free time. She was one of the original and longtime parishioners of St. Adelaide’s Parish in Peabody and had served as a Eucharistic minister and alter server there. Mrs. Eramo was a deeply religious woman and loved her time spent in Church. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time with her beloved family and friends. She was a kind, caring mother and friend and will always be remembered for her caring, selfless nature. She is survived by her children, Anne Curran of Peabody; Nancy Pacheco and her husband, Edward of Smithfield, RI, George Eramo, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Rowley; her grandchildren Christine Devereux and her husband John, of Haverhill; Brian Curran of Peabody; Adam Eramo of Marina Del Rey, California, Rachael Eramo of Beverly; and Courtney Eramo of Rowley, MA; and great grandson, Aidan Devereux of Haverhill; and by several nieces and nephews. Emily was predeceased in death by her brother, Charles Zappala of Methuen, and her son-in-law Edmund Curran of Peabody Her family expresses their deepest gratitude to the administrations and staffs as Putnam Farm in Danvers and Care Dimensions Hospice/Palliative Care of Danvers. Their care and compassion for Emily will never be forgotten. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Adelaide’s church, 708 Lowell St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flower donations may be made to Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 15 Mount Carmel Road, Danvers, MA 01923, or Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
