Obituary of Peter T Panopoulos

Peter T. Panopoulos, 89, of Peabody, died peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday morning following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Stella (Gagerges) Panopoulos who died this past January and with whom he shared over 69 years of marriage. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Theodore P. and Julia (Koukis) Panopoulos. He was raised and educated in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School, class of 1945. Upon his graduation from high school, Peter enlisted with the United States Navy and served as a Naval Frogman (Navy Seal) during WWII and was honorably discharged in August of 1946. Peter owned and operated the College Sub Shop at Salem State University for over 30 years who was known by his welcoming sign, “come in and meet Stella and Pete.” He also was a Mason and a member of the Mason Lodge A.F. & A.M. in West Roxbury and later in Peabody as well. Peter is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Theodore and Donna Panopoulos of Seabrook, NH and David and Diane Panopoulos of Rindge, NH, his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Richard Bianco of Peabody, his seven devoted and loving grandchildren, Nikki, Jenna, and Peter Panopoulos, Christine Perrina, Stella Cerchione, and Athena and Alexa Bianco, his great grandchildren, Peter Panopoulos, Jr, Milania Panopoulos, and Lucio and Giuliana Perrina, and by his nephew, Johnny Psiakis of Amesbury. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Psiakis. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. His Funeral Service will be on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St, Peabody. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
