Obituary of Elias Manuel Leitao

Elias Leitao PEABODY – Elias Leitao, 71, died peacefully on Saturday December 30, 2017 while in the comforting presence of his family, following an extended illness. Born in Galveias, Portugal, he was the son of the late Domingos and Maria (Vieira) Leitao. He lived there for 15 years, then emigrated to the United States, settling in Peabody where he lived for over 55 years. He attended Peabody High School. Mr. Leitao was a Distributor for Pepperidge Farm throughout the North Shore for a 35 – year career. Elias was a passionate fan of soccer since he was a young boy. He played soccer until his children were born. He was a fan of the Sporting Clubs de Portugal, and enjoyed the rivalry with the C-P Soccer Team. He was mostly devoted to his family and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by a son and daughter, James Leitao and his fiancée Amanda Ireland of Peabody, and Tracy Leitao of North Carolina; two grandchildren and a step-granddaughter Tyler Leitao, Miles Leitao, and Haley Ireland all of Peabody; a brother Louie Leitao and his wife Sunok of Virginia; two sisters, Sandra Alves and her husband Mario of Peabody and Maria Leitao-Grant of Florida; a sister-in-law Luisa Leitao of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Anthony “Tony” Leitao. Visitation and Funeral Mass are as originally scheduled. No delay due to Snowstorm! Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday January 6, 2018 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
