Obituary of Eric Ronald Quy

Eric Ronald Quy of Peabody entered eternal rest January 4, 2018 after a long struggle with progressive supranuclear palsy. Eric was born January 10, 1945 in Durban, South Africa to Stanley Naylor Quy and Joan (Venter) Quy. He enjoyed an idyllic childhood in South Africa with especially fond memories of King William’s Town. His family eventually settled in Cape Town where his father was appointed Senior Civil Magistrate. Eric was a proud graduate of Rondebosch Boys’ High and the University of Cape Town. He left South Africa at 25 to seek his fortune in London. There he found his fortune in his American wife Jeannie Metcalf. They were married in London on August 11, 1973 and blessed with an extraordinarily happy marriage. “He was my north, my south, my east and west, My working week and Sunday rest” He leaves behind his beloved wife Jeannie, daughters Philippa (Anand), Catherine, Farran (Adam) and three adored grandchildren Rohan, Graham and Hadley, a brother John of Johannesburg and four nephews. He was one part South African Crocodile Dundee, one part MacGyver with a hearty dash of Benny Hill. He was full of fun, quick with a (often inappropriate) laugh. He will be terribly missed. He was and always will be #1. In lieu of flowers please think of Eric while taking his advice: always turn off the lights when you leave the room and keep the thermostat down.
