Rita E. (Boggoch) McCarthy, 87, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the NSMC Salem Hospital with her family at her side. She was the devoted wife of the late John J. McCarthy. She had been a salesperson at the Salem Five and Dime store and later at Almy’s Department Store in Salem for many years. She devoted most of her time and life to raising her children as family meant everything to her. She cherished going to her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and achievements and was the Rock of the family as told by her grandchildren. She enjoyed going to Foxwoods and doing her scratch tickets but what meant most to her was being with her family. Rita is survived by her devoted five children, Edward Boggoch of Peabody, her daughters, Debra and her husband Lloyd Harsip of Beverly, Donna McCarthy, wife of the late Edward McCarthy of Peabody, Elizabeth Dunn of Salem and Joanne and her husband Steven Panzero of Lynnfield. Rita is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Keri, Kristen and Colleen McCarthy, Craig Harsip, Kevin and his wife Sarah-Jane Harsip, Nicole (Boggoch) McCoy and her husband Joshua, Lindsay Boggoch, and Jeffrey, Evan and Mariah Panzero. In addition to her grandchildren, she is survived by her six adored great grandchildren, Kayla and Gina Narbonne, Makenzie Linnane, Liam and Jackson Harsip and Abigail Harsip, and many nieces and nephews. Rita was the loving sister of Robert Connell of Salem and Shirley Maher of Plymouth. She was the sister of the late John, James, Charles and Elizabeth Connell, Mary Ambrose and Blanche Graham. Rita’s family are grateful for the care, kindness and compassion extended to her by the Whittier Rehab of Bradford, NSMC Salem Hospital, All Care VNA of Lynn and Care Dimensions during her struggles with her illness. They are deeply grateful.
