Obituary of Clara (Jamont) Pappas

PEABODY — Clara (Jamont) Pappas, 91, wife of the late Peter C. Pappas, of Peabody, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at North Shore Medical Center Salem Hospital with her family at her side. Mrs. Pappas was born in Salem on May 12, 1926, daughter of the late Theodore and Stafania (Zemitis) Jamont. She was raised in Salem and graduated from Salem High School. Mrs. Pappas began her career as a sales clerk at Empire Clothing Store in Salem and also a talented hairdresser. She then transitioned to public service taking a job at the Peabody Police Station in 1975. After 41 years of dedicated service to the City of Peabody, Mrs. Pappas retired from the police department in 2016 at the age of 89. Mrs. Pappas will always be remembered for her warm smile, quick-wittedness, wise wisdom, and unbelievably strong work ethic. Mrs. Pappas is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Chuck Angelopulos of Swampscott; son, Charles Pappas of Kennebunk, ME; five grandchildren, John Angelopulos and his wife, Leigh, of Denver, CO, Cara Lawler and her husband, John, of Marblehead, Peter Pappas of Wells, ME, Michael Pappas of Brooklyn, NY, and Gregory Pappas of Kennebunk, ME; two nephews, Andy Sweeter of Peabody and Paul Sweeter of Phoenix, AZ; and two great-grandsons, Jack and Peter Lawler of Marblehead, who will miss their “Big YiaYia” dearly. She was predeceased by her sister, Sarah Sweeter, brothers Benjamin Jamont and Aloyzy Jamont, and nephew, James Jamont. ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a service at 10 a.m. in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Sunday, January 21, 2018 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
