Obituary of Gregory L Theokas
Gregory L. Theokas, 75, of Topsfield, died Thursday evening at his home following a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband of Lorraine (Lach) Theokas with whom he shared over 49 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Peabody, he was the son of the late Louis and Cleopatra (Stavropoulos) Theokas. He attended Peabody Public Schools and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1945. He attended Champlain College in New York for a year and later completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1954. He received his Masters Degree in Education from Salem State College in 1960.
He began his teaching career in the Winchendon and Wrentham School Systems. He then began his 30 plus years in the Peabody School System, first as Vice Principal at the Center School and then Principal of the Burke School, and finally before retiring in 1995, he spent 24 years as the Assistant Superintendent of the Peabody School System.
He was a member of the Mason Amity Lodge in Danvers, American Legion and Veteran’ s of Foreign War. He also was a member of the retired Massachusetts Teachers Association. He was a veteran who served with the United States Navy. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren sports activities.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Judie Theokas of Rowley; two daughters and son-in-law, Pam and Mario Winter of Rowley and Anne Marie Theokas of Beverly; a brother and a sister-in-law, Constantine and Faith Theokas of Topsfield; a niece Christina Theokas of Topsfield; 5 grandchildren, Marianne, Katy, and Nick Winter, and Greg and Rebecca Theokas. He was the brother of the late Demosthenes Theokas.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody to which relatives and friend are invited to attend. Visitation on Tuesday from 4 until 7:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
