Obituary of Charles George Mekeadis

Charles G. Mekeadis, 83, of Salem, died early Tuesday morning at the Salem Hospital after a short illness. He was the husband of 55 years of the late Alexandria (Tsimourtas) Mekeadis who died last month. He was born in Peabody on July 11, 1922, the son of the late George and Anna (Papuchis) Mekeadis and was a graduate of Peabody High School. He then entered the US Navy where he served as a radioman in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Operation during WW 11. Following his discharge, he was an entrepreneur in the Real Estate Market and in Computer School training. He later was a bartender for over 20 years at the former Whaler’ s Pub at the North Shore Shopping Center prior to his retirement 16 years ago. He loved to read and enjoyed t raveling and doing home repairs around the house. He is survived by a son, George C. Mekeadis of Salem, a daughter, Cynthia Ramos and his granddaughter, Alexandra Ramos both of Swampscott; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, , Thalia Chambers of Kennebunkport, ME and Cleo and Greg Filias of York, Maine and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Stella Bisgrove. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church Peabody. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 until 10:45 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
