Obituary of Karl Basil Toyloy

Karl B. Toyloy PEABODY – Karl B. Toyloy, 85, beloved husband of Roberta (Carl) Toyloy, died peacefully on Friday January 26, 2018 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, following an extended illness. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, he was the son of the late Arthur F. and Sephlin V. (Charles) Toyloy. He grew up there and was educated there before moving to New York City in 1968. After his divorce, one Spring Day in April he met his second wife Roberta in the grocery store, and spent 46 loving years together, and married for 43 years. Mr. Toyloy worked in banking, for several years at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City. Soon he moved to Connecticut and worked at an electronic plating plant. Karl was passionate about his family. He and his wife served as Foster Parents for over 26 children and adopted a few, besides his one daughter, Karla. He enjoyed watching wrestling from WWF, stock car racing when in Jamaica, and was a longtime faithful member at the Calvary Baptist Church in Peabody. He is survived by his wife Roberta Toyloy, of Peabody, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage; a daughter, Karla Toyloy-Mattera and her husband John of Peabody; and adopted daughters Anne Marie Toyloy of Peabody, and Marybeth Toyloy of Atlanta; three children from his first marriage Basil Toyloy, Angela McClure, and Lorna Ohl all of Florida; 10 grandchildren including Olivia Mattera, Cole Mattera, Kai Toyloy and Freya Lebaron; two great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother, Sandra Toyloy and Sheila Toyloy both of Florida, and Danny Toyloy of Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Dolly Toyloy, and brother of the late Myrna Toyloy of Jamaica and Raymond Toyloy of England. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Tuesday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday January 31, 2018 at 10 AM in the Calvary Baptist Church, 4 Coolidge Road, Peabody. Cremation will follow the ceremony.
