Obituary of Charles L. Heil

Charles L. Heil PEABODY – Charles L. Heil, 99, beloved husband of the late Virginia “Ginny” (Pinney) Heil, died peacefully at the Rosewood Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center in Peabody. Born in Newport, KY, he was the son of Charles and Angelina (Herman) Heil. He grew up in Kentucky where he graduated from Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, KY where he played football, basketball and baseball, before enlisting in the United States Army. He was a veteran of World War II, and upon his discharge attained the rank of Corporal in the U.S. Army. He met his wife, Ginny, at a dance while stationed at Fort Ruckman in Nahant. Mr. Heil was manager with Salem Laundry Dry Cleansers for many years, retiring about 35 years ago. Affectionately known as “Pa”, Charlie was a loving father and grandfather, who cherished every moment with his children and family. Charles was very involved with sports, supporting athletes of all ages through high school. He coached the Dodgers in Peabody Little League for almost 35 years, was a South School Basketball Coach, was a President of the Peabody High School Football Boosters, was a passionate fan of the Peabody High School Girls Basketball Team, and was an avid horse racing fan. Recently the Peabody Little League honored him by renaming the National League the Heil Division. He also served as a Past Commander of the American Legion, Shoemaker Post 345 in Lynn. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Robert and his wife Jane Heil of Beverly, Karen and her husband Michael Connolly of Georgetown, and Richard and his wife Nok Heil of Peabody; 8 grandchildren, Kristin & Nick Papanickolas, Bobby & Sarah Heil, Brian & Amanda Connolly, Sean Connolly, Erin & Tim Bottomly, Justin & Mary Heil, and Erik & Meg Heil, and Thananant Yangyiem; 6 great-grandchildren, Braden Connolly, Garrett Connolly, Lia Papanickolas, Mikey Papanickolas, Kate Connolly, and Brooke Bottomly, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother William Heil and sister Alice Mae Heil. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday February 15, 2018 for a visitation from 10 AM to 12 Noon, followed by a Funeral Service at 12 Noon in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
