Obituary of Agnes (Pappanicholas) Karabelas Ruggiero

Agnes (Pappanicholas) (Karabelas) Ruggiero, 89 PEABODY -- Agnes (Pappanicholas) (Karabelas) Ruggiero, 89, beloved wife of the late Arthur Ruggiero and the late Telemachus “Tally” Karabelas, died peacefully on Tuesday February 13, 2018 at the Beverly Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Constantina (Tsaltas) Pappanicholas. She attended Peabody schools and was a lifelong resident of the city. Agnes used her skills and entrepreneurial spirit as a hairdresser who owned and operated The Beauty Corner on Lynn St. in Peabody for many years before retiring in 2004. Agnes was a Life Member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, where among other things was a member of the Daughters of Penelope. She enjoyed reading, dancing, beano, and crocheting. She loved laughing, had a great sense of humor, and was passionately devoted to her family. She was pleased hosting many holiday and regular gatherings at home. She is survived by a daughter and son, Pamela Karabelas Gruntkosky of Danvers, and James Karabelas and his wife Bernadette van Duyse of Boston and Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley, Quebec; a grandson Adam Gruntkosky of Danvers; a step-daughter, Joyce Motta and her husband Dr. Mario Motta of Gloucester; three step-grandchildren, Melissa, Andrea and Justin Motta of Gloucester; a brother, Gregory and his wife Michaeline Nichols of Mancester-by-the-Sea, MA, and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband Tally Karabelas and second husband Arthur Ruggiero, and sister of the late Louis Pappanicholas and Anne Adamopoulos. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday February 17, 2018 at 10:30 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
