Obituary of Stephen C. Kapantais

Stephen C. Kapantais passed away in Mass General Hospital on February 16, 2018, with his beloved wife, Rosemary, by his side. He was the son of the late Stephen and Eleanor I. (Wettergreen) Kapantais. A lifelong resident of Salem and a U.S. Navy Veteran, Stephen retired from the MBTA as Superintendent of Engineering and Maintenance of Way. In addition to Rosemary, he is survived by his children: Eleanor Romell and her husband Jesper, and their children Emma, Annika and Axel of Sigtuna, Sweden; Stephen C. Jr. and his wife Tracy, and their children, Alexandra, Victoria and Stephen C. III of Salem, MA; and Christopher and his wife Rachel, and their children, Ariel and Talia of Boulder CO; a brother, Michael and his wife Stephanie of ME; and a sister, Maureen Alexander, of FL. Stephen enjoyed traveling the world together with Rosemary. His favorite adventures were their many river cruises. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, the V.F.W. and American Legion of Salem, the Budleigh Masonic Lodge of Beverly, the Shriners Aleppo Temple and a member of the Old Antarctic Explorers Association. Stephen also enjoyed fishing, marksmanship and woodworking. Visitation for Stephen will be held at the Conway, Cahill – Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, in Peabody, on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 4 to 8 PM. His funeral will be from the funeral home on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 9:30 AM, followed by services in St. Vasilios Church, 5 Paleologos Street, in Peabody at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody.
