Obituary of Charles Edward Inglis
Charles Edward Inglis, 75, of Peabody, died late Tuesday evening at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Anastasia (Salaris) Inglis with whom he shared over 54 years of marriage.
Born in Malden, he was the son of the late John and Louise (Kumin) Inglis. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1948. After graduation, he entered the United States Navy and served for five years as an Aviation Store Keeper aboard several air craft carriers until his honorable discharge in 1953.
Upon marrying his wife he moved to Peabody where he had been living for the past 54 years. He was a medical equipment salesman who worked for Tracer Lab, Packard Instruments and United Technologies for over 30 years. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Child World, the Electric Light Plant, US Post Office and the IRS and also took Census.
He was very active in the community and was a former president of the PTA at the Carroll School, served on the Parish Board at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church and taught Sunday School. He also was active with the 50th Class Reunion Scholarship Committee and organized Luncheon reunions for 8 years for Lynn English High School.
He was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his children and attending his grandchildren’ s sporting activities. He also was an avid Red Sox fan.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Estelle Tillas of Tolland, Ct., Fran and Larry Ridge of Beverly, Charles M. Inglis of Garden Grove, Ca., James Inglis of San Antonio, TX., and Dennis Inglis of Peabody, nine grandchildren, Jason Tillas, Stacey and her husband Michael Taylor, Eric and his wife Kimberly Ridge, Amy and Adam Ridge, Catherine, Bryan, Corey, and Kaylee Inglis. He is also survived by two great grandchildren, Nicholas Tillas and Peighton Ridge, two sisters-in-law, Jane Inglis of Swampscott and Elizabeth Inglis of Kennebunkport, ME, as well as several nieces, nephews, and Godchildren. He was the father of the late Alan Inglis and brother of the late John and Robert Inglis.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 LYNN STREET, Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Visiting hours on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM.
