Obituary of Catherine M. "Kay" (Cavanaugh) Kozwich

Catherine M. “Kay” (Cavanaugh) Kozwich 95, of Peabody, wife of the late Edward A. “Ed” Kozwich Sr. with whom she shared 73 years of marriage, passed away at Rosewood Nursing and Rehab Center in Peabody on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 with her loving family at her side. Kay was born in Peabody on May 18, 1922, daughter of Patrick and Margaret (O’Leary) Cavanaugh. Raised in Peabody, she graduated from Peabody High School in 1940 and pursued her education at Burdett Secretarial School in Boston where she received her associates degree. In her youth she was employed as a secretary at A.C. Lawrence Leather Company leaving there to raise her family. Kay also held an integral role in Ed’s Bay State Cleaning Company which spanned over 3 generations. Kay was very civic-minded and was involved with the visiting nurses and school associations, and also served as a Board Member of Citizens Bank. Kay loved the Red Sox and never missed watching a game, she enjoyed bowling, solving crossword puzzles and quite often attending Lions Club conventions and international conferences with her husband Ed. Kay is survived by her two sons, Michael A. Kozwich of Swampscott and Edward A. Kozwich, Jr. of Peabody, and a daughter Katherine M. Grant and her husband Lawrence “Larry” Grant of Danvers; two grandsons, Jeffrey Grant of Lynn, and Kevin Grant and his wife Ryn of Beverly; two great-grandchildren, Colin and Elijah Grant of Beverly, and other extended family and friends. She was also predeceased by her son Mark E. Kozwich and her siblings John, Henry and Arthur Cavanaugh. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, March 2nd from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 3rd followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Her burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
