Obituary of Dorothy A. (Costello) Bresnahan

Dorothy A. (Costello) Bresnahan, 91 PEABODY – Dorothy A. (Costello) Bresnahan, 91, beloved wife of Francis J. Bresnahan, died peacefully at her home, while in the comforting presence of her family on Sunday February 25, 2018, following a brief illness. Born in East Boston, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anne (Cronin) Costello. She grew up there and graduated from East Boston High School. She subsequently graduated from Salem State Teachers College. Dorothy was predeceased by her siblings Arthur, Kathleen, and Robert Costello. Besides nurturing her family, Mrs. Bresnahan was a teacher with the Town of Nahant Public Schools. Dorothy was passionate about her family, and very devoted in her Catholic faith. She was a communicant at Sacred Heart Church in East Boston as a young girl, and a longtime parishioner at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody. She volunteered on the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurse Association, and loved traveling. She is survived by her husband Francis J. Bresnahan of Peabody, with whom she shared over 67 years of marriage; two sons and a daughter, Dr. Michael H. Bresnahan and his wife Dr. Maria Lopez-Bresnahan of Lincoln, Christopher Bresnahan and his wife Maura (Chenery) Bresnahan of Peabody, and Cynthia Ambrogio and her husband Sebastian of Croton-on-Hudson, NY; five grandchildren, Francesco & his wife Megan Ambrogio of South Boston, Thomas Ambrogio of Ossining, NY Victoria Bresnahan & her husband Daniel Fainstein of New York City, Andrea Bresnahan of Lincoln, and Taylor Blake & her husband Joseph Mancini of Salem, and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday March 2, 2018 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial Donations may be made to either the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. John’s Church, 17 Chestnut St., Peabody, MA or to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, Mt. Carmel Road, Peabody, MA 01960.
