Obituary of Doris E. McInnis
Doris E. (Simpson) McInnis, 93, of Peabody, died early Monday morning at the Pilgrim Nursing Home in Peabody following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late James A. McInnis. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late James C and Mary T (Clark) Simpson. She was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of St. John’s Girls Highschool. Doris worked mother’s hours for several companies on the North Shore, Including, Treadwell’s, Toomey’s Cleaners, Omega Pizza, New England Telephone, and finally, she worked as a waitress at Mac’s Coffee Shop in Beverly before finally retiring in 1993. Upon her retirement, she enjoyed playing Beano, going to Foxwood’s Casino and playing the slot machines, camping and spending time with her grandchildren. “Dotsie” was a very kind and generous soul whose life was her family. She put family above herself by being caring, supportive and loving. Dotsie left a legacy of love. We lost our family matriarch, who was a leading example of what it means to be generous to her family, in many ways, when no-one was watching. We will always cherish her loving memory deep within our hearts. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Thomas Bennett of Peabody, her son and daughter-in-law, James A. McInnis Jr. and his wife Ellen of Peabody, and is also survived by her beloved six grandchildren, Laurie B. Martin, Cheryl M. Bolles Fielding, James A. McInnis, III, Jeffrey C. McInnis, and Edwin and Matthew Sorell, 14 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary T. Sorell and by her two sisters, M. Eileen McInnis and Frances L. Tucker. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn Street, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9:00 until 10:45 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
