Obituary of Joan M. (Rice) Niconchuk

Joan M. (Rice) Niconchuk, 73, wife of Paul W. Niconchuk of Danvers, died Wednesday at the Beverly Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Niconchuk was born on November 25, 1932 in Saugus daughter of the late Albion and Dorothy (Bartlett) Rice. She was raised in Saugus and graduated in 1950 as an Honor Student from Saugus High School. She and her husband moved to Danvers in 1960. Mrs. Niconchuk worked for a few months at Moran and Moriarty Insurance Co. after her graduation. She was then employed as a secretary for the Boston & Maine Railroad in Boston until her retirement in 1992. She spent some of the winters in Beaufort South Carolina, was a member of the Wenham Country Club who had 3 holes in one during her golfing career. She was an avid and excellent bridge player and also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and gardening. Joan will be remembered as the most even tempered person that everyone knew and one who had a contagious laugh. In addition to her husband with whom she shared 50 years, she is survived by 3 brothers and their wives, Roger and Audrey Rice of Greenville ME, Malcolm and Sandra Rice of Chebeague Island ME and David Rice of Lubec ME; and will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Her sister Barbara Littlefield pre deceased her. Her funeral will be held Wednesday May 31, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. Peabody location. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the North Shore Cancer Center, 17 Centennial Dr., Peabody MA 01960.
