Obituary of Philip J. Matvichuk

Philip J. Matvichuk, 85 PEABODY – Philip J. Matvichuk, 85, beloved husband of the late Julie (Silva) Matvichuk, died peacefully on Sunday March 18, 2018 at The Lafayette Skilled Nursing Center in Marblehead, following an extended illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Procop and Mary (Markowsky) Matvichuk. He graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1950, then attended Northeastern University. He enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and served on the USS Antietam. Mr. Matvichuk worked as a Printer with Diamond Crystal Salt Company for 20 years. Later he was a technician in electronics for Unitrode which became Micro-Semi Company in Watertown and in Salem for 30 years of service until retiring 20 years ago. Phil enjoyed tinkering around the house with different electronic gadgets. He built model planes and boats, enjoyed shooting Billiards/Pool as he was the “Rack Master” at Peabody House, and he also enjoyed golfing often at the Lynnfield Center Golf Course. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Wakefield. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Michael Matvichuk and his wife Marie of Danvers, Paul Matvichuk and his wife Patti of North Reading, and Susan Makridis and her husband Paul of Marblehead; seven grandchildren, Kristen Matvichuk of Danvers, Amanda Matvichuk of North Andover, Rachael Matvichuk of South Boston, Patrick Matvichuk of Medford, Natalie Laface and her husband Giovanni of Winthrop, Christina Makridis of Salem and Andrew Makridis of Wakefield; one great-grandson Giovanni Laface of Winthrop; a brother Peter Matvichuk and his wife Jean of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by a brother Edward Matvichuk and sister Anna McCormick. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday March 23, 2018 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to either the Parkinsons Disease MA Chapter, 715 Albany St., C 329, Boston, MA 02118 or to the Lafayette Activities Fund, 25 Lafayette St., Marblehead, MA 01945.
