Obituary of Kathryn L. "Babe" (O'Neil) Johansen

Kathryn L. “Babe” (O’Neil) Johansen, 83 PEABODY – Kathryn L. “Babe” (O’Neil) Johansen, 83, beloved wife of the late Peabody Police Officer Edward “Scotty” Johansen, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday March 20, 2018, following an extended illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late David and Kathryn (LePage) O’Neil. She graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1951, and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mrs. Johansen worked as a secretary for GTE Sylvania in Salem for several years. Babe, as she was affectionately known, enjoyed bowling in the Southern Belles League at Metro Bowl, traveling with family and friends, and an avid football fan for Peabody High School and the New England Patriots. Her strongest passion was family, and she will be remembered as a loving mother, cherished grandmother and good friend to many. She is survived by a son and daughter, John Johansen of Danvers and Linda Rydzewski of Peabody; four grandchildren, Kelly Rydzewski, Julie Daigle, Erik Johansen, and Valerie Johansen; five great-grandchildren, Eva Lane, Owen Johansen, Edward (Teddy) Jackson, Desmond Daigle, and Kathryn (Kate) Jackson; a sister Jeanette Litwin of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by brothers David and Francis O’Neil. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Saturday March 24, 2018 from 9:30 – 10:45 AM with a Funeral Service at 10:45 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
