Obituary of Mary F. Mulherin

Mary Mulherin, 86, died on Tuesday March 27, after a short illness at Rosewood Rehabilitation in Peabody. She was the wife of Thomas P Mulherin of Peabody. Born in Salem, May 26, 1931 to the late Michael and Cecilia Sullivan. She went to Wallis Elementary school and graduated from Peabody High School in 1948 where she was a football cheerleader. After High School she started work at New England Telephone as an operator and left after she started a family to be a stay at home Mom. When her son Kevin went off to college, she started working at Puritan Medical Center in Salem. She worked there for thirty years; leading a long and successful career which she was proud of. Many of the patients became her good friends. In addition to her husband Tom, she is survived by one son, Kevin Mulherin and four grandchildren: Ryan Mulherin of Lynn, Shannon Howell and her husband Johnny of Chester, New Hampshire, Matthew Morrison and his wife Paige of Beverly and Joseph Mulherin of Peabody, and two great-grandchildren, Justin and Ella Howell of Chester New Hampshire. She is also survived by her sister Pat Barteaux and her husband Al of Peabody, her two nieces Brenda McFeeters and Audry Marble and one grandnephew, Ed McFeeters. Mary took great pride in the assistance she gave to her brother Sonny throughout his life. Sonny required special attention and housing most of his life which Mary provided lovingly. Mary is remembered best for the kindness she spread to her son, grandchildren and great grandchildren; to the patients at Puritan Medical Center; to her and her husband’s friends; and the friends of her son Kevin, who were never far away from their house on 13 Rockdale. In addition to her mother and father, Mary was predeceased by her brothers Ed and Sonny Sullivan. Also, her daughter in law, Nancy Gallagher Mulherin. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody and her Funeral will be at St John’s the Baptist Church in Peabody on Saturday, at 10:00 to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
