Obituary of Michael J. Marotta, Jr.

Michael J. Marotta, Jr., 84 PEABODY – Michael J. Marotta, Jr., 84, husband of the late Elaine B. “Bunny” (Hayes) Marotta, died unexpectedly at home on Tuesday April 3, 2018. Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Theresa (Paldi) Marotta. He grew up in Revere, and graduated from the Immaculate Conception High School in Revere. He attended Boston College for a brief period before enlisting for his service for our country. He was a veteran of the Korean War, with service in the United States Air Force. Mike enjoyed a longtime career with James J. Derba Wholesale Meats of Chelsea. He served in many capacities from Sales, to Meat Cutter/Butcher, to Manager where he worked over 40 years including part-time after his retirement. Mike enjoyed many sports and was a coach in Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball. He was most content enjoying quiet times at home with his family and a nice glass of Fortissimo. He is survived by a son Michael Marotta, his girlfriend Christine Dalton of Peabody; a daughter Nancy Spignese & her husband Tony of Danvers; three grandchildren, Anthony and Jake Spignese, and Erin Powers & her boyfriend Gil Ortega; two great-grandchildren, Riley Harper Ortega and Hadley Quinn Ortega; a sister Dorothy Parsons & her husband John of Lynnfield, and their children John Parsons & Jennifer McCarthy and their families. He was brother of the late William “Billy” Marotta. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Tuesday April 10, 2018 from 9:30 – 10:45 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody.
