Obituary of Virginia R. Holden-Norberg

Virginia R. Holden-Norberg, 82, of Peabody, passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on Sunday, April 8, 2018 with her loving family at her side. Virginia was born in Peabody on November 4, 1935, daughter of Arthur E. and Helen (Maguire) Holden. Raised and educated in Peabody she received her BASW Degree from UNH. Virginia spent several years in Miami FL a city that she loved the most, she pursued her education and received her MSW Master’s from Barry University. The degree allowed her to pursue a late in life career and devotion to Hospice with Hope Hospice of south Florida and then Beacon and Allegiant Hospice in Massachusetts when she returned to Peabody to be closer to her family. Her husband served in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years and they were stationed throughout the world including France where their son Eric was born. After returning to the North Shore, and for the previous 6 years, Virginia returned to the working force as a social worker at Winchester Hospital VNA a position she held until her retirement in 2017. Virginia was a caring person who dedicated her entire life helping others and through her social worker knowledge she helped numerous patients on hospice and their loved ones. She also enjoyed painting and caring for her cats. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire staff at the Kaplan Hospice House for the passionate care Virginia received in her final days. Virginia is survived by her cherished son and daughter-in-law, Eric M. and Nancy Norberg of Highland, NY; her dear brother, Arthur E. Holden Jr., of Peabody, and loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her parents and her former husband Michael Norberg. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, April 14th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by her Celebration of Life service in the funeral home at 11 a.m. The committal of ashes will be held at the family lot at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
