Obituary of Richard F. "Moose" Whelan
Richard F. Moose Whelan, 45, of Lynn and formally of Peabody. died suddenly early Sunday morning at his home. He was the devoted husband of Denise (McKinley) Whelan with whom he shared over 18 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Peabody, he was the son of James F. and Claire (Carroll) Whelan of Peabody. He attended Peabody public schools and was a graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, class 0f 1976. He has lived in Lynn for the past 18 years.
He was the owner of Patriot Components, an independent electronic distributor in Wakefield for the past 5 years. Prior to that, he worked in the Auto Industry as a Salesman for various auto dealers on the North Shore, and for General Electric in Lynn.
He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 11, Peabody. He also was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed camping and fishing in Eppingham, New Hampshire. He enjoyed golfing and was a caddy during the 2001 United States Senior Open held at the Salem Country Club in Peabody.
Besides his loving wife of 18 years, he is survived by two children, Michael and Ashley Whelan of Lynn; 3 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, Tim and Joan Whelan of Marblehead, Dan and Lisa Whelan of Lynnfield, and Brian and his finance, Sharon Nekolopoulos, of Peabody; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Karen and Jeff LeBlanc of Lynn and Kevin and Jeannine McKinley of Seekonk,his mother and
Father-in-law, Ron and Rose Mc Kinley of Henderson, NV., and several nieces and nephews
His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’ s Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Friday from 2 - 4 PM and 7-9 PM.
