Obituary of Thomas F. Leahy

Peabody, May 27, 2006. Thomas F. Leahy, 81, of Peabody, died early Saturday morning at the Pilgrim Nursing Home following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Anna (Sullivan) Leahy with whom he shared over 43 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Thomas and Bessie (McGovern) Leahy. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a proud graduate of St. Mary’ s High School, class of 1942. During World War II, he worked at the Navy Yard in South Boston, and later at the General Electric River Works Plant in Lynn and for 10 years was a custodian for Lynn Public Schools. In 1969 he worked for the State of Massachusetts, Department of Revenue, as a Tax Examiner until his retirement in 1989. He enjoyed reading, and watching all of Boston’ s professional sports teams. He also was a great story teller who talked of historical events to his children and grandchildren. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Kevin Leahy of Peabody, Tom and Kathy Leahy of South Berwick, ME, Brian and Kristina Leahy of Seabrook, NH, and Shawn Leahy of Peabody, he is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Tony Cardillo of Lynn, six grandchildren, Christiana, Katie, Sara, and Emma Leahy and Richard and Shawn Firey, a sister-in-law, Pauline Bryson of Newton and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Leahy. His funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy can be made in his name to St. Mary’ s High School Fund, C/O class of 1942, 35 Tremont St., Lynn, MA 01902.
