Obituary of Norma (Heiry) Douglas
Norma D. (Heiry) Douglas, 96 PEABODY – Norma Day Douglas, 96, of Peabody died Tuesday April 10, 2018 in Danvers following a brief illness. Norma was born on October 17, 1921 in Baltimore, Maryland to Laura and Byard Heiry. She was raised and educated in Maryland. She was the beloved wife of the late Malcolm H. Douglas, whom she shared over 50 years of marriage with. Together they raised their family in Peabody. In later years, they would enjoy the comforts of their home in Daytona Beach, FL. During her life she held several occupations and was a civil servant for the Internal Revenue Service for many years. Norma was known for her wit and keen sense of humor. The woman always had a comeback. She enjoyed reading, golfing and knitting. She had a famous sweet-tooth and a love of Maryland crab-cakes. An adventurous spirit, Norma traveled with family on several trips; from the frigid waters of Alaska, to the islands of Hawaii and to the ruins of Pompeii. She was preceded in death by her sister, Emma Heiry; her daughter and best-friend Sandra Lee Ericson; and her granddaughter Diana Lynne Mogavero. She is survived by her son, Malcolm Douglas, Jr., of Midland, TX. She leaves behind her four loving grandchildren: Scott Mogavero and his wife Kerri of Peabody; Christine Tirado and her husband Manny of Ocoee, FL; Catherine White and her husband Scott of Rowley; and Deborah Mogavero of Port Charlotte, FL.She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Jennifer Jakes of Jackson, WY; Benjamin Mogavero of Peabody; Melissa Kramer of Queens, NY; and Matthew Mogavero of Peabody. She will be extremely missed by all of her friends and family. Norma was not one for a spectacle. Therefore, memorial services will be private. Family and friends are encouraged to make a donation in her name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
