Obituary of Virginia Ruth Sweeney

Virginia “Ginny” R. Sweeney, of Brooksby Village formally of Somerville and Billerica, passed on Thursday April 12, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Born in Boston, on October 4, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Richard J. and Ruth E. (Nangle) Desmond and the wife of the late Robert F. Sweeney Jr. Ginny graduated from Matignon High School, class of 1956, and Middlesex Community College. She was employed as a Court Transcriptionist for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and then worked for over twenty years for the Mitre Corporation as an administrative assistant in the Linguistics unit. Ginny is survived by her children, Kathleen “Kaye” and her husband Ted Hapshe of Rockport, Massachusetts, and Kevin and his wife Lynn Sweeney of East Hampstead, New Hampshire. Three Grandsons; Nicholas Hapshe and his wife Jenrett Doucett of Salem, and Peter F. and Thomas K. Sweeney of East Hampstead. She also leaves her Sister-in-law Mary Segalla and family, her cousin Jacqueline Weymouth and family as well as her much loved friends Vicki and Donna Damphouse. Ginny was an avid beach goer, a voracious reader and a life-long learner. She loved summering in Sandwich, Massachusetts; eating blueberry pancakes at The Marshland diner, and fried clams at Seafood Sams. Ginny traveled widely and her favorite trips were those to Ireland, England, France, Italy, and most of all China. Her greatest loves were her family and planning a new adventure. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday April 21, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill – Brodeur Funeral Home 82 Lynn St. Peabody, MA. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Chapel at Brooksby Village 100 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody MA. at 12:00 PM. Interment will be on Monday April 23, 2018 in the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
