Obituary of Maria da Luz Lima

Maria da Luz (Silva) Lima, 86 of Peabody, passed away early Tuesday morning at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Joao Lima, who passed away in 2002. Maria was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, on September 18, 1931, daughter of the late Antonio and Eugenia (Correia) Silva. She was raised and educated there prior to moving to the United States. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a packer for Danvers Fishery Products. She was a longtime faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, a place that was close to her heart and considered it her second home. She was very active in the founding of the church, attended mass daily, helped out with church functions, and helping arrange flowers on the altar. He presence was always there in one way or another. She was also a member of the Third Order of Franciscans. Her other interests included cooking a variety of meals, tending to her vegetable garden and grapevine, but most of all being surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren. Her kindness, generosity, and unconditional love will truly be missed by all who knew her. Maria is survived by her eight children and their spouses, Antonio Lima of Lynn, John and Rose Lima of Sarasota, Fla., Joseph and Ivone Lima of Peabody, Paul Lima of Beverly, Luis Lima of Beverly, Maria Filomena and Eddie LaBonte of Clearwater, Fla., Rosa (Lima) Layman and John of Ipswich, and Almerinda Lima and her partner Daniel Layton of Salem; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Manuel Da Silva of Toronto; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by a son and a daughter, as well as her brother Antonio Lisboa, and her great-grandchild, Christopher West. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 26, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Friday, April 27, at 8:00 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody, MA 01960.
