Obituary of Peter Christ

Peter Christ, 96, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Maria (Nicketakis) Christ. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Athanasios and Paraskevi (Vagalis) Christofelopoulos. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1940. Peter was a veteran of WWII who served with the United States Army with the engineering corps in France, Belgium, and France and was honorably discharged after three years of service in 1945 Following his discharge, he began working in the construction industry for EH Porter and other contractors and then later was employed with the city of Peabody School Department as a carpenter before he retired in 1988. Peter was an avid gardener and landscape artist whose famous vegetables were known throughout the neighborhood. He enjoyed listening to big band music, jazz, blues, and swing music and loved watching movies from the 1930’s and 1940’s. He also enjoyed reading and was an active member of St. Vasilios Church. Peter is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Arthur P. and Linda Crist of Peabody, his two daughters, Rhonda L. Christ of Danvers and Joanne M. Christ and her partner George Fortin of Peabody, his two grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Amir Jalili of CA and Nicholas O. Crist of Peabody, his two great grandchildren, Syrus and Sofia Jalili and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Frank, George, and Chris Christ, Dena Tsaltas, Margaret Hantzopoulos, Evelyn McDonald, and Carole Doane. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at St. Vasilios Church, Paleologos St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
