Obituary of Maria Lurdes Machado

Maria Lurdes Machado, 88, of Peabody, died early Thursday morning at the Care One at Peabody following a brief illness. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Isabel (Bettencourt) Machado. She was raised and educated in Portugal and later immigrated to the United States and has lived in Peabody for the past43 years. While living in Peabody, she was employed as an assembler with Barry Shoe Manufacturing for over 16 years before retiring. Maria enjoyed crocheting and donated many tablecloths and runners to family and friends. Maria is survived by her brothers, Elvino Machado and Manuel and his wife Elizabeth Machado, her sister, Zulmira and her husband Manuel Felix, and her sister-in-law, Maria P. Machado, all of Peabody and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Jose Machado. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
