Obituary of George A. Couris

George A. Couris, 94 of Peabody, a retired Peabody police officer, died Wednesday evening, May 16, 2018 at the E.N. Rogers Veterans Memorial Hospital, Bedford after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Kokoreas) Couris. George was born in Peabody on February 24, 1924, the son of the late Apostolos and Xarifialia (Drampary) Couris and was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He entered the US Navy in 1942 during WW 11 and served six years before his discharge in October 1948. Upon returning he entered the New England Barber Academy and then opened up George’s Barber Shop that he operated on Foster St., Peabody from 1948 until his retirement in 2010. He also served on the Peabody Police Department working the third shift for 25 years. George was an avid golfer and had been a member of the Haverhill Country Club for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul George Couris, a Lieutenant in the Peabody Fire Department and his wife Michelle Couris and a daughter, Marilyn Couris all of Peabody, his three grandchildren, Nicholas and his wife Sara Couris of Rowley, Cheryl Ann and her husband Peter Casnova of Shoreline, Washington, and Robbi Lee and her husband Jon Powers of Pawtucket, R.I; three great grandchildren, Jackson and Nathan Couris and Ruby Casnova, his dear friend and fellow barber, David Serpa and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Theodore Couris and Theodore E. Couris. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Funeral Service will be held there on Friday at 11:30 AM . Burial will be held in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Peabody. Expressions of sympathy made to the E.N.
