Obituary of Mary V. (Hannon) Galvin

Mary V. (Hannon) Galvin, 86, devoted wife of 62 years of Francis J. Bruiser Galvin of Peabody, died at her home on Sunday June 4, 2006 surrounded by her family. Mrs. Galvin was born October 19, 1919 in Peabody daughter of the late John and Delia (Griffin) Hannon. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from St. John’ s Girls High School in 1937. She then attended Marion Court College in Swampscott where she received an Associate’ s Degree. Mrs. Galvin was employed as a merchandiser at the deerskin Trading Post in Peabody until her retirement. Prior to this, she was employed for 12 years at Casual Corner at the North Shore Shopping Center in Peabody and at G.E. in Lynn during WWII. She was a lifetime member of the A.O.H. Division 11 Ladies Auxiliary in Peabody and was the recipient of the Irish Woman of the Year Award. She was also a lifetime communicant of St. John’ s Church, was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. In addition to her husband of 62 years, she is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Michael and Diane Galvin of Nashua NH, John and Eva Galvin of Peabody; 2 daughters and their husbands, Mary Fran and John Shirley, Edward and Sally Cassidy all of Peabody; 5 grandchildren, John and Robert Galvin, Courtney Cassidy, Patrick and Daniel Shirley; 4 great grandchildren, Luke, Joshua, Zachary and Nathaniel Galvin and several nieces and nephews. Her brother Thomas Hannon predeceased her. Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. location Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St. Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
