Obituary of Rose Sousa Jorge

Rose Sousa Jorge, 94, of Peabody, passed away on Saturday afternoon at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose Jorge who passed away in 2009. Rose was born in Peabody on October 16, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Ernestina (Almeida) Coutinho. As a child, she moved to Portugal, returning the United States at the age of 29. Mrs. Jorge worked for over 30 years at New England Sportswear until her retirement. Her interests including sewing, reading and cooking holiday meals for her children, grandchildren and family. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Tina and Art Nicolaisen, and Cidalia Marshall, her grandchildren and their spouses, Joseph and Michelle Nicolaisen, John and Carin Marshall, David and Rita Nicolaisen, and Diane and David Givner and is also survived by her 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Manuel Couceiro and their children, Sebastian, Lorraine and Manuela Couceiro, a brother, Nelito Coutinho, also a brother, Dulio Correia, and a sister, Maria Correia and their spouses. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 8:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
