Obituary of Martha T. (Teixeira) Martins

Martha T. (Teixeira) Martins, 97, of Peabody, died Monday morning at the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Joaquim Martins. She was proud to be born in the United States in Peabody and was the daughter of the late Antonio and Amelia (Rosario-Brito) Teixeira. She moved to Portugal shortly after her birth and returned to Peabody in 1955 where she has lived for the last 63 years Martha was employed as a stitcher at the former New England Sportswear Company in Peabody until her retirement. Martha was a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and brought over the Statue from Portugal that stands inside the church today. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Society as well. Family was central to Martha and she enjoyed her roll as a mom and later grandmother and making sure everyone was well feed. Second to her family was her enjoyment of her garden and sharing with her family and friends. Martha is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Armando and Kathleen Martins of Beverly and Tony Martins of Peabody, her daughter, Zilda Raposo of Danvers, her brother, Armando Teixeira of Peabody, her four grandchildren, John, Jacqueline, Kevin, and Brian, and by her six great grandchildren, Nicholas, Luke, Noah, Isabella, John, and Grace, and also by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Antonio, Anebal, and Marguerita Teixeira and Maria Antunes and by her grandson Joshua. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
