Obituary of Joseph J. LeGere
Joseph J. LeGere, 90, of Peabody and formally of Everett, died early Saturday evening at the Bedford VA hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Jeanne (Coyle) LeGere.
Born in Novia Scotia, Canada, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (LeBlanc) LeGere. He later moved to Everett and has spent the last 42 years living in Peabody.
He was a veteran of World War II, who served in the Rhineland, Northern France and Central Europe with the United States Army. He was a recipient of Silver and two Bronze Stars, as well as two Purple Hearts. He also received the Combat Infantry Badge.
After the war, he worked for the City of Everett as a heavy equipment operator with the Department of Public Works before retiring many years ago.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing in Maine and New Hampshire and also enjoyed reading.
He is survived by two sons, Paul and John LeGere, two daughters and a son-in-law, Jane LeGere of Peabody and Marjorie and Ernest Perrone of Peabody, 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Albert LeGere, Evelyn Hewey, and Eleanor O’ Toole.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Our of Lady Assumption Church, Lynnfield to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Tuesday from 4 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
