Obituary of William D. Funchion
William D. Funchion, 59, of Forest St., Peabody, died Monday at the
Pilgrim House Nursing Peabody following a long illness.
He was born in Peabody on
January 31, 1944, one of twelve children of Gilberta (Madore) Funchion of Danvers and the late Edward N. Funchion and had resided here all his life.
He was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1962 where he won an outstanding
Junior Achievement award and was selected to go to the National Junior Achievement
Conference in Columbus, Ohio in 1961.
Following high school, he had been employed at the GTE Sylvania Co. at
the Boston St., Salem plant for many years. He became an artist and painted numerous
paintings based on his impressions of various scenes of the North Shore. He was also an avid swimmer and his family and friends often referred to him as Willie .
Surviving him besides his mother are, 6 brothers and sisters-in-law, John G. and
Suzanne Funchion of Norfork, Ct., Brian R. & Lee Funchion of Stoneham, Richard J.
and Joyce Funchion of Wenham, Ma, Peter and Cheryl Funchion of Peabody, Michael and Debra Funchion of Olympia, Wa.,and Matthew J. & Diana Funchion of Devon, Pa.,
4 sisters and 3 brothers-in-law, Mary Jo & Stephen Quigley of Lynn, Susan and Jean Claude Collinet of Tucson, Az,, Dorothy and Peter Aham of Newbury and Cynthia
Funchion of Beverly; 27 nieces and nephews and 7 grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was the brother of the late Edward Funchion.
Funeral Services will be held on
Wednesday at 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church Street Peabody facility. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hour on
Wednesday prior to service from 10:15 until 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends kindly
