Obituary of Maria M. Tomaz

Maria M. Tomaz, 92, of Peabody, passed away Thursday evening at the NSMC-Salem Hospital, following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Tomaz, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage. Maria was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, on April 7, 1926, daughter of the late Jose & Virginia (Quadros) Silva. She was raised and educated there, until moving to the United States in 1969. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an assembler at Bicknell & Fuller in Peabody. She was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, and also a member of the Azorean Brotherhood of the Divine Holy Ghost, where she also devoted her time in the organization and preparation of feasts and other functions. She also enjoyed cooking, especially baking, crocheting, knitting, but most importantly being surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Maria J. & Manuel Silva of Peabody; a granddaughter and her husband, Angela & Mike Silva; great grandchildren, Olivia & Nicholas Barreira, Olivia & Chloe Silva; a brother Alexandrinho Silva; a sister, Eduina Pais; sisters-in-law, Olimpia Silva, Evelina Barcamonte, Donalda Tomaz, Maria Da Guia Tomaz, & Ildete Tomaz, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, Duarte Silva, Guilherme Silva, and Manuel Silva. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 24 from 3-7 P.M at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., in Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Monday, June 25, at the funeral home at 8A.M., followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 9A.M. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem
