Obituary of Othilia B. "Tillie" (Sowinski) Gill

Othilia B. “Tillie” (Sowinski) Gill 93, of Peabody, wife of the late Francis P. “Mull” Gill, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Hathorne Hill in Danvers with her family at her side. Tillie was born in Salem on October 25, 1924 daughter of Walter and Helen (Kowscielski) Sowinski. Raised in Salem, she graduated from Salem High School in 1942 and has been a resident of Peabody since 1955. Tillie was employed for 15 years in the Peabody School System as a teacher’s aide. She was a loving mother who dedicated her life to creating a home for her family and was so proud of her grandchildren and most recently her great grandson. As hobbies Tillie enjoyed cross country skiing, biking and swimming. She also enjoyed baking, her pets and her time spent at Salem Willows. She is survived by her 3 sons, Michael Gill of Grafton, Mass State Police Captain Kenneth Gill (Ret) and his wife State Police Detective Lieutenant Elaine Gill (Ret) of West Newbury, and Mass State Trooper James Gill (Ret) and his companion Lisa Carpenter all of Danvers; 7 cherished grandchildren, Tanya Gill, Kristina and Michael Valentin, Jonathan Gill, Ryan Gill, Benjamin Gill, Amanda Gill and Declan Gill, and a great grandson Jameson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Helen Petrowicz, Millie Polizzotti, Edward and Steven Sowinski. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 28th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 29th, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn Street, Peabody.
