Obituary of George R. Bernard

George R Bob Bernard, 76, of Central St., Peabody, died Tuesday at the Salem Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Salem, Ma on January 5, 1927, the Son of the late Edward and Marie (Bernier) Bernard, he was raised in Salem and had been a member of the Salem High School Football Team. He had resided in Peabody, Texas, and in Derry NH before moving back to Peabody 3 years ago. He was a veteran of WW 11 serving with the U.S.Navy aboard the USS Fall River in the Pacific Theatre Operation. He was first employed in the Roofing and Siding business. Later he became an Iron Worker with the Local # 7 Iron Workers Union in Boston and helped in building many tall buildings in Boston including the John Hancock for 20 years prior to his retirement 15 years ago. he loved antique Cars and going fishing in New England Waters. He was the former husband of Virginia Joyce (Nelson) Bernard. He is survived by his former wife of Peabody, 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Nelson and Kim Bernard of Epsom, NH and Norman Bernard of Peabody, 6 daughters and 4 sons-in-law, Verna and George Shelden of Bronx, NY, Suzzette Bernard of Worcester,Ma., Roxanne and Daniel Flathers of Danvers, Keely and John Tivey and Jocelyn Dean all of Peabody, and Carolyn and Raymond Daniel of Dover, Deleware, a half-sister and her husband, Michelle and Michael O’ Donnell of Peabody; 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Lorraine and Robert Pelletier, Ruth Collins and Jean and Harold Soper all of Lynn, 14 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchldren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Norman Bernard. His Funeral will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Visiting hours on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Relatives and friends kindly invited.
