Obituary of Alice E. (Genest) Foley

Alice E. Foley, 84 PEABODY – Alice E. (Genest) Foley, 84, died peacefully on Sunday July 15, 2018, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, while in the comforting presence of her family, following an extended illness. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Annette (Morin) Genest. She grew up in Salem where she attended schools. Besides nurturing her family, Mrs. Foley volunteered with North Shore Detox, and eventually became a Director in that program helping the community. After retiring from that position, she became the Administrator for NASCAP and retired again. Alice was an avid reader, and enjoyed making quilts. She was a single mother of four, and worked hard to provide for her family. She taught the importance of community service, and she volunteered at Bootstraps in Beverly for 10 years. Her passion was her cherished devotion to family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as being a friend to many. She is survived by two daughters and a son, Debra Bouffard and her husband Michael of Salem, Laurie Grieves and her husband Robert of Peabody, and David Foley of Salem; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie, Kimberly, Derek, Evan, Samantha, John, Kara, Alex, Luke, and James; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister Suzanne Connors of Swampscott, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter Sandra Brennan and sister Irene O’Brien. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a Funeral Service on Thursday at 10 AM in the South Congregational Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 – 7 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Cremation will follow, with urn burial at a later date in Wadsworth Cemetery in Danvers.
