Obituary of Joseph Gustave "Gus" Sauvageau

Joseph Gustave “Gus” Sauvageau, 91 PEABODY – Joseph G. “Gus” Sauvageau, 91, died peacefully on Thursday July 19, 2018 at the Pilgrim House Skilled Nursing & Rehab Facility in Peabody, following an extended illness. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, he was the son of the late William and Marie Laure (Meloche) Sauvageau. He lived there 15 years, and lived in Peabody for most of his life, the last 77 years. Mr. Sauvageau served in the Merchant Marines as a Seaman for 20 years, and got the opportunity to visit many ports-of-call. Gus, as he was affectionately known, had a strong, independent spirit. Following a health incident in his youth, his vision was limited, yet he was always good to his parents, and loyal to his family. He was a thoughtful, considerate person who enjoyed living his life in simple fashion. He is survived by a sister and two brothers, Lauretta M. Silva of Peabody, Emile and his wife Joyce Sauvageau of Danvers, and Alfred and his wife Caroline Sauvageau of Peabody; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews, and cousins from the North Shore and Canada. He was brother of the late Serge Sauvageau, Alphonse Sauvageau, Claire Carey, Lise Sauvageau and Lucie Sauvageau. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for his Funeral Service on Monday July 23, 2018 at 11 AM in the Calvary Christian Church, Lynnfield. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 – 5 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
