Obituary of Marion E. Craig
Marion E. (Freeman) Craig, 90, of Peabody died Saturday evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late John D. “Jack” Craig who died last October. She was born in Boston, MA on July 6, 1928, the daughter of the late James E. and Mary A. (Splaine) Freeman and was the foster daughter and raised by Matthew J. and Geraldine J. (Tucker) Tierney. Marion was educated in Arlington MA and had resided in Peabody for the past 68 years. After raising her children, she started her new career and was a graduate of the Essex Agricultural Institute in Middleton and became an LPN at the NSMC Salem Hospital for 12 years. She later volunteered there for many more years and also belonged to the Senior Center of Peabody. She loved her Zumba friends, preparing the “Tips & Topics” newsletter and attending the other activities there. She was an avid reader and a member of two book clubs at the South Branch of the Peabody Institute Library. Marion and her husband loved to travel and following their retirement they camped across the United States and also took cruises and traveled in Italy and Canada. She loved to bake her special breads and enjoyed her daily walks with her friends. She was a very caring woman who reached out to others and will be greatly missed. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, J. Douglas and Patti Craig of Eliot, ME , a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Frank Durgin of Denver, CO, her precious grandchildren, Jason and his wife Kate Craig, Matthew and his wife Brenda Durgin, Scott and his wife Rachel Durgin and Timothy Durgin; her great grandsons, Ian Douglas and Jack Thomas Craig; her beloved family friend, Beatrice Caruso of Andover, MA and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her siblings, Joseph Freeman, Helen Mc Phail and Lillian Bradford. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 11:30 until 1:30 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility followed by a Service there at 1:30 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
