Obituary of Edward J. Falkowski
Edward J. Falkowski, Sr., 82 PEABODY – Edward J. Falkowski, Sr., 82, beloved husband of Helena (Bencal) Falkowski, with whom he shared 58 years of memories in marriage, died peacefully on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital, while in the comforting presence of his family. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late William and Sophie (Swiniarski) Falkowski. He graduated from Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1954, where he was a member of the football and track teams. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, majoring in Industrial Relations, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration both from Northeastern University. While there he was a member of the ROTC and upon graduation was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps. He served seven years in the Army Reserve during the 1960’s, bridging the Korean and Vietnam Wars.Later he earned a Graduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution from the University of Massachusetts. Ed worked for 35 years in various personnel management positions within the Federal Government, including the Defense Logistics Agency, the Office of Personnel Management, and the U.S. Army. He retired in 2001 as the Director, Personnel Management and Community Activities and Labor Relations Officer from the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center in Natick. During his career he received numerous awards including the Commander’s Award for Administrative Excellence, Commander’s Award for Civilian Service, and the Superior Achievement Award. Ed was active supporting youth programs in the City of Peabody. He was active with Boy Scout Troop 106, and in Peabody Little League Baseball. He served as a Coach for the Rangers and with Little League All-Star teams. While Manager of the Federal League Padres, the team won the City Championship in 1981. He will be remembered as a dedicated person in work, passionate about his family, and as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. In addition to his wife, Helena, he is survived by two daughters and two sons, and their spouses, Susan Silva and the late Joseph Silva, Jayne Ciarametaro and her husband, Peter, Edward Falkowski and his wife, Doreen, and David Falkowski and his wife, Susan; nine grandchildren, Stephen, David, Andrew, Adam, Christopher, Edward III, Samantha, Emma, and Christina, and during his life he mourned the death of two infant granddaughters Catherine and Lauren. He also leaves a brother William Falkowski and his wife, Rose, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather for a visitation on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 9:30 to 11 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody.
