Obituary of Mary Papamechail

Mary (Metropolis) Papamechail, 93, of Peabody, passed away Sunday morning at the NSMC Salem Hospital. She was the former wife of the late Constantine Papamechail. She was born in Peabody, MA on November 16, 1924, the daughter of the late Andrew and Bessie (Pantegis) Metropolis and was educated and resided in Peabody all her life. Mary worked at Hy-tron, Filenes and had served as an aide in the Head Start Daycare for many years prior to her retirement. She had been a long- time member of the choir at St. Vasilios Church. She enjoyed listening and dancing to Greek music, gardening and farming her vegetable garden but her most precious time was spent with her cherished grandchildren. She is survived by her two loving and devoted daughters, Pamela Papamechail of Danvers and Carla Casey and her husband Michael of Peabody, her two grandchildren Christopher and Gina Casey of Peabody, her brother and sister-in-law, James and his wife Sophia Metropolis of Danvers and her sister-in-law Georgia Metropolis and a brother-in-law, George Chronis and many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Aristea, George, Stephen, Phyllis, George and his wife Martha Metropolis, Theodore (Teddy) Metropolis, and Charlotte Chronis. A visitation will be held on Tuesday August 14 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be on Wednesday August 15 from the funeral home at 10:30AM followed by a funeral service in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St. Peabody at 11:30AM. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Mary’s family would like to thank the many caregivers who were so kind and caring to Mary. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Mary can be made to Northshore Elder Services of Danvers, NSCAP of Peabody or St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody.
