Obituary of Charles F. Kallelis
Charles F. Kallelis, 82, of Peabody and formerly of Salem, died Monday morning at his home after a courageous battle with cancer since 2001. He was the former husband of the late Mary Elizabeth (Murphy) Kallelis.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Claffey) Kallelis. He was raised and educated in Salem and has been living in Peabody for the past 54 years.
He served with the United States Army during World War II in the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe Campaigns. He also was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theatre and American Theatre Campaign Ribbon and the Good Conduct and Victory Medal as well.
After the War, he drove a taxicab on the North Shore and later worked for over 15 years as a cook for the Peabody Council on Aging, retiring 15 years ago.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Regina Kallelis of Lynn, a brother, James Kallelis of Peabody, a sister, Alice Beauchamp of Georgetown, four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Diamantopoulos.
His funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Ann’s Church Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
