Obituary of Violet V. (Lobao) Newey

Violet V. (Lobao) Newey, 91, of Concord and formerly of Peabody, died Tuesday morning at the Care One at Concord following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Norman Newey. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late John and Virginia (Chaves) Lobao. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1942. She continued her education and received her associate’s degree from Burdette College. Violet taught kindergarten at Gardner Park for years and later worked as a bookkeeper for Peabody and Brown law firm in Boston for many years before retiring in 1991. She was a member of the drill team of the Portuguese American Civil League and the Salem Lancers Square Dance Club for 25 years. She also enjoyed doing arts and crafts, and crocheting as well. She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, John and Anne Newey of Maynard, her brother and sister-in-law, John and Irene Lobao of Peabody, many nieces and nephews, and by her beloved three grandchildren, Maura, Michael, and Kevin Newey. She was predeceased by her siblings, James and Wilson Lobao, Evangeline Chipman. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St, Peabody, followed by her Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
